Victoriei Square is one of the central squares of Timișoara, the place where Timișoara was proclaimed on December 20, 1989 the first free city in Romania. At the opposite poles of the square are the Romanian Opera House to the north and the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral to the south. From the Romanian Opera House to the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral the promenade on the right side is called "Corso" and the one on the left side is called "Surrogate"Around the square there are cultural institutions - the Romanian Opera House, the National Theater, the Hungarian State Theater, the German State Theater, the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, the Timiș, the Capitol and the Studio cinemas, the Museum of Banat, art galleries, cafes and restaurants and many shops.
"Corso" is the name of the promenade that starts from the Romanian Opera House to the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral, on the right side. In the past, this was the walking place of the high society of Timisoara. From here begins the actual promenade, with Lloyd's Palace housing the rectory of the Polytechnic, followed by Neuhausz Palace, Merbl Palace, Dauerbach Palace, Hilt Palace and, finally, Széchenyi Palace.
"Surrogate" is the opposite promenade, on the left side, and a direct continuation of Alba Iulia Street. In the past, only young people and workers walked here. The students only had access with the permission of the school, and the soldiers had to prove that they were on leave to be able to walk here.
The first building is the Löffler Palace, followed by the Palace of the Chamber of Commerce, next to which was built in 1938, on the side street, the Scala Cinema, later changed into Studio.
Monuments:
The statue of Wolf- "Lupoaica cu puii", supported by a 5 m high pillar, is a replica of Lupa Capitolina, given to Timișoara in 1926 by the city of Rome.
The Fish Fountain - located between the Lupoaica statue and the Romanian National Opera. It was built in 1957. Initially, its shape was a five-pointed star, on which were placed bronze fish. After numerous restorations, the fountain has reached its current form
Libertatii Square - Top tourist attraction in Timisoara
Built in the middle of the 18th century. For a time it was known and recognized as the Arms Market, the Military Market or the Parades Market. It was renamed the Freedom Square in 1848, with the outbreak of the Hungarian Revolution, but after the Austrian army recaptured the town, the square returned to the name of Prince Eugene de Savoy Square. The oldest building in this area is considered the New Generalate, from 1730. But we must not forget the Military Command and the Military Casino. The latter remained famous for the lavish parties given by officers. The Old City Hall was built according to the plans of an Italian from Timisoara, on the place of the Ottoman public bath. In the middle of the square stands the baroque statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nepomuk, a monument made in Vienna in the 1750s.The monument presents the Blessed Virgin blessing John Nepomuk, the protector of Catholics. Casa cu Atlanti, another historical monument from Timisoara, was the dowry of the Aromanian merchant Macri for his daughter. What is special about this objective are the two Turkish columns ritually buried, a sign that the Turkish rule was also buried with the recapture of the city by the Austrians.

Unirii Square is the oldest historical square in Timișoara, arranged in Baroque style.Throughout its history, the square was also called Hauptplatz (Main Square), Domplatz (Dome Square) and Losonczy Square (after the name of Count Stefan Losonczy, killed in 1552 when the fortress was conquered by the Turks). The name Union Square was given to it in 1919, because the Romanian army that entered Timișoara stopped here.
The objective hosts important tourist objectives, such as the Roman Catholic Dome, the Baroque Palace, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, the Brück House, the Holy Trinity Monument, the mineral water fountain and other architectural monuments.
